Fostering With Us

One of the most meaningful ways to help vulnerable kittens is also one of the most hands-on — by opening your home and your heart.

Michelle’s Kitten Rescue is entirely foster-based and volunteer-run. Every kitten we save depends on people in our community who are willing to donate their time, energy, and love — whether for a few weeks or a little longer.

We offer different fostering opportunities to suit different homes, schedules, and experience levels.

Foster Parents

Foster parents provide temporary, in-home care for:

  • Kittens of all ages

  • Pregnant moms and moms with babies

  • Kittens recovering from illness or surgery

  • Shy or undersocialized kittens who need one-on-one attention

  • Kittens or cats with special needs

As a foster, you give kittens what they need most — safety, stability, and human connection — while they wait for their forever homes.

You’re Not Alone

You don’t need to be an expert — just compassionate and reliable. We provide:

  • Veterinary care and medical guidance

  • Food / Litter / Toys + more depending on specific cats needs

  • Ongoing support and check-ins

  • A team that’s always available if questions come up

We’ll match you with a foster situation that fits your home, comfort level, and availability.

We are regularly in need of new foster homes to take in abandoned and homeless cats. If you'd like to welcome a foster cat into your home, ask yourself these important questions first:

Will you be able to spend quality time with the animals?

On average, it is best to spend at least two hours a day with your foster animals. Socialization is just as crucial to their well-being as food and medical care.

Will you be able to relinquish the animal(s) at the end of the foster period?

It can be challenging to let go once you have become emotionally attached.  Of course, foster parents are permitted to submit an adoption application for their foster cat.

Can you commit to spending the entire foster period with the animal?

Your foster period may range from two weeks to several months.

Are you comfortable fostering a cat with varying degrees of health or behavioural concerns?

We primarily rescue cats who are  ill, injured, scared or feral or abandoned.

Are you able to separate our animals from your own?

Foster animals should remain isolated from your resident pets to prevent the potential transmission of disease. Having a sanctuary room for your new foster cat is critical in the first weeks they are in your home.

Are you comfortable explaining to friends that they must go through the regular adoption process at TCR if they wish to adopt the animal?

All potential adopters must speak with one of our adoption counsellors before they are permitted to take a cat home.

Ready to Foster?

All of our kittens are placed in loving foster homes so we can learn their personalities and identify any medical concerns. Without our wonderful fosters, we simply would not be able to do this work.

All fosters are provided with the materials and support needed to help our kittens heal, grow, and prepare for their forever homes.

If you live in the GTA area and would like to foster, please visit our application page.

Once your application is reviewed, we’ll be in touch to talk through next steps and find the right fit for you.

You don’t need to change your life forever — just long enough to help a kitten start theirs.
